Jewellery care guide
Our intaglio jewellery is made by hand from carved glass, gold-finished metal and pearls. A few simple habits keep it bright for years.
Put it on last, take it off first
Put your jewellery on after perfume, lotion, hairspray and make-up have dried, and take it off before you wash, swim, shower, exercise or sleep. Chemicals and water are the main things that dull a gold finish and pearls.
Keep it dry
- Do not wear pieces in the shower, the pool, the sea or a hot tub.
- If a piece gets wet, pat it dry with a soft cloth straight away.
- Never soak pearls: water can weaken their surface and the glue that holds them.
Cleaning
- Wipe each piece gently with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth after wearing.
- Do not use jewellery dips, polishing pastes, toothpaste or ultrasonic cleaners. They can strip a gold finish and loosen settings.
- For the carved glass, a dry cotton bud gets into the carving without scratching.
Storing
- Keep each piece in its box, or in a soft pouch, away from other jewellery so stones and finishes do not scratch.
- Store it somewhere cool and dry, out of direct sunlight.
- Hang or lay necklaces flat so chains do not knot.
Rings
Take rings off for gardening, cleaning, lifting and cooking. Knocks are the most common cause of a loosened stone. If a stone ever feels loose, stop wearing the ring and contact us.
