Plus Size Made to Order Linen Clothing: How It Works

Plus size made to order linen clothing is cut after you order it, either in a standard size up to 3XL or to your own measurements, so it is not a standard pattern simply scaled up. At PehroDesign, sizes run XS to 3XL, and above a 46 inch bust we cut to your measurements only.

This guide explains how that works step by step, what to send us, how long it takes and what happens if the fit is off.

What does made to order mean for plus sizes?

Nothing exists until somebody orders it. Ready made clothing is cut to an average body and sized up from there, and above the middle of the size range the proportions often stop matching real bodies. When a garment is cut after you order, we can cut it to your numbers instead.

Our journal explains why plus size linen so often fits badly and what grading does to a pattern.

What sizes do you make?

Standard sizes run XS to 3XL on both women's and men's pieces. For women, the two largest sizes are body measurements:

  • 2XL (US 18): bust 42-44 inches, waist 35-37 inches, hip 45-47 inches
  • 3XL (US 20): bust 44-46 inches, waist 37-39 inches, hip 47-49 inches

The full chart, with US and EU sizes and the men's table, is on the size guide. Men's sizes are garment measurements laid flat, not body measurements.

What if my bust is above 46 inches, or I am between sizes?

Above a 46 inch (117 cm) bust, please message us for a custom order rather than ordering 3XL. We cut the garment to your measurements. If you are between sizes, do the same: send your numbers and we make the piece to them rather than rounding up or down.

Making a garment to your measurements costs nothing extra.

Which measurements should I send?

Bust or chest, waist, hip and height, plus the garment length you prefer. Measure over light clothing with the tape flat and snug, not tight. Our step by step guide, how to measure yourself for made to measure clothes, covers the common mistakes.

Send your measurements within 24 hours of ordering. If we have not received them by then, we make the standard size you selected.

How does the process work?

  1. Choose a piece from the collection, or send a photo of something you want made.
  2. Choose your fit: a standard size, or your own measurements.
  3. We cut and stitch it. Production takes 2 to 5 business days.
  4. It ships tracked. Standard delivery takes 10 to 20 business days after dispatch. Standard shipping is free worldwide, and US orders arrive duty paid.

What if the fit is off?

If the finished garment differs from the measurements you sent by more than half an inch (1.3 cm) on any single measurement, tell us within 30 days of delivery with a photo, and we remake it once, free. You cover the shipping to send the first garment back.

Because made to measure pieces are cut for one person, they are final sale. Standard sizes can be returned within 30 days of delivery, unworn and unwashed. Read the full refund policy before you order.

Why does fit matter more in woven linen?

Linen has very little stretch. A cotton jersey top forgives a size either way, but a woven linen shirt or dress does not, so the measurements you choose do most of the work. That is an argument for made to order, not against linen: when the cloth is cut to your numbers, the lack of stretch stops mattering.

How can I check a size before I commit?

Compare the size guide with your own measurements, and use the model details on the product page for scale. Our women's dress model is 5 ft 7 in, with a 34 inch bust, 28 inch waist and 38 inch hip, wearing a S. If you are unsure between two sizes, or between a size and a custom cut, message us before you order and we will help you choose.

What can I ask to have changed?

Because every piece is cut for one person, you can ask for length, sleeves and neckline changes on most styles, a roomier or closer fit, or a colour from our linen range on a different style. Tell us what you want on the custom order page and we reply with what is possible and a price before anything is cut.

Which styles are easiest to get right?

In our experience, relaxed and A-line shapes are more forgiving of small measurement errors than very fitted ones, so they are a good place to start if you are ordering made to measure for the first time. Some pieces to look at:
