Every piece in our jewellery collection is made by hand, one at a time, and only after it is ordered. There are no machines stamping out frames in bulk. Here is what happens between your order and the box arriving at your door.
1. Choosing the stone
Each design starts with a carved glass intaglio in the colour you chose. Stones are checked by eye for the clarity of the carving and for chips or bubbles before they go any further.
2. Measuring
The frame has to hold the stone exactly. The stone is measured and the metal is marked to size, and for rings the shank is measured to the size in your order.
3. Cutting and shaping
The metal is cut and shaped into the frame, the bezel that will grip the stone, and any decorative borders, beading or wire details.
4. Soldering
The parts are joined with solder: frame to back, loops for earring hooks and pendant bails, and the small cups or pins that will hold pearls.
5. Setting
The stone is placed in its bezel and the metal is pressed over its edge by hand to hold it securely. Pearls are fixed in place.
6. Finishing and polishing
The piece is cleaned, given its finish and polished, then checked once more against the order: colour, size and every setting.
7. Packing
Finished pieces are packed in a padded gift box and dispatched within 2 to 5 business days of the order, with tracking.
Why made to order
Making each piece after it is ordered means rings fit the size you asked for, and nothing sits in a drawer waiting to be sold. It also means small differences between pieces: each one is slightly individual, which is part of the point of handmade jewellery.
